P365 Release Source licenses and effect on ERS / Domain Cutover -
Description
We will need to release the M365 license from source users, around two weeks after the user has been cutover. They are using ERS Day 2 and will also do a domain cutover at the end of the project.We are happy to convert the mailbox to shared mailbox if required, but needs to try and release the license in the source, to satisfy the Tenant owners.Is there an impact on ERS and Domain Cutover by removing the license (i.e. removing the mailbox from the source) and/or converting the mailbox to shared mailbox until Domain Cutover has been completed. -
Resolution
ERS
To ensure ERS functionality, the following testing was completed
- After users have been cutover, ERS Day 2 was tested to ensure that ERS was operating correctly. Once proper ERS functionality was confirmed the users were converted to Shared Mailboxes and M365 licenses were removed from the users.
- Tests were conducted to ensure that forwarding rules, place on the mailbox at cutover were retained and to make sure the P365 Discovery correctly now saw these mailboxes as Shared.
- All ERS tests were completed post mailbox conversation again to ensure that ERS Day Two continued to function correctly
Domain Cutover
Once all users were migrated and converted to shared mailboxes, the Domain Cutover process was tested:
- Proxy Addresses were successfully removed from the source objects (users and groups) for the domain being cutover, replaced with a mail.onmicrosoft.com address as specified in the Domain Cutover wizard
- Domain was successfully removed the source Tenant
- Domain Was successfully added to the target Tenant
- Addresses from the source mailboxes & DL groups (Type: Shared) were added to the target objects users as secondary addresses
