Issue
This is a known behavior where a dot is set as one of the special characters and will be replaced with an underscore. The reason it’s labeled as one of the special characters by Dirsync is because Exchange will accept certain types of characters across different versions, some might be allowed in one version yet neglected in other versions. Due to this reasoning, Dirsync has a set of special characters that it will restrict to ensure compatibility with Exchange. These characters are listed within the code and here is the complete list of special chars for sAMAccount :
, + " < > ; = / [ ] : | * ? ~ ! @ # $ \ { } ' ^ ( ) .
Solution
The space is not included as a special character as of 4.0.2.
