Archive Manager Message Index or Attachment Index can become corrupted under certain circumstances.
An error similar to "Could not find file E:\ArchiveManager\Index\Attachment\_fgef.cfs" is shown when performing searches in the AM website or when viewing the following log files (default path is shown, path may differ):
"C:\Program Files\Quest Software\ArchiveManager\Archive Full Text Index Service.exe.log"
"C:\Program Files\Quest Software\ArchiveManager\FTIAttachmentWorker.exe.log"
A common cause of Index Corruption is due to orphaned child process of the Full Text Index Service such as "FTIAttachmentWorker.exe" and "IFilterHost.exe". Before carrying out a repair, Stop the Full Text Index Service and check in Task Manager on the Archive Manager services server to see if either process is still running. If they are, kill the processes and restart the service. If errors related to a corrupt index are still being logged, proceed with the repair.
Another common cause for Index Corruption is Anti-Virus software scanning the index directories, the Index should be excluded from virus scanning as per the following solution:SOL41407: What Archive Manager items need to be excluded from Anti-Virus scanning?
Another cause for Index corruption is a failure to regularly optimise the index, to avoid this, please see the following solution:SOL46744: How can the Full Text Index search be optimized?
