Archive Manager Message policy not deleting items from Exchange mailbox.
Description
A message policy has been configured to delete all messages and message shells (stripped messages) that are over xx days old but they are not getting deleted.
In the mailbox log you find the following messages...
01:20:21 Message Date (2/4/2014 12:35:00 PM) yields age of 370 day(s); policy requirement is 365 day(s).
01:20:21 Removed by retention policy or excluded by exclusion rule:
Cause
A retention policy is removing the item from the Archive before the Message Policy is set to remove the mail item from the mailbox.
If a message has been removed from the archive a mailbox policy cannot remove the message from the mailbox.
Resolution
Make sure the date set to remove messages and message shells in your mailbox policy shorter that the date set to remove items from the archive in your Retention Policy.
