For some later versions of Ubuntu 14.04 or Ubuntu 14.04 with the kernel upgraded, running Appassure will show the following errors in /var/log/appassure/appassure.log
bsctl encountered an error when processing command '--list-devices'. Error: bsctl: failed to open /dev/blksnap: Is the module loaded?
Castle.MicroKernel.ComponentActivator.ComponentActivatorException: ComponentActivator: could not instantiate Replay.Common.Implementation.Win32Api.LinuxHardware ---> System.Reflection.TargetInvocationException: Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation. ---> System.InvalidOperationException: GetAttachedDevices failed to return a proper list of devices, error code 1
Running "uname -a" shows that kernel 4.2 or 4.4 is being used.
The core would not be able to add the Linux machine for protection.
Although Ubuntu 14.04 is supported, linux kernel 4.* is not supported in Appassure, so the kernel module required is not able to compile.
Later versions of Ubuntu 14.04 comes with linux kernel 4.* preinstalled.
RESOLUTION
It is recommended to upgrade the Appassure agent to Rapid Recovery agent as linux kernel 4.* is supported under Rapid Recovery.
WORKAROUND
If it is not possible to upgrade to Rapid Recovery, please install linux kernel 3.* and boot the Ubuntu 14.04 using linux kernel 3.*.
Reinstalling Appassure agent again will make the Appassure agent work again.
