Note: If all DL AA Appliance RAID-6 storage capacity has been allocated for AppAssure Backups, then implementing the internal RASR & WinBackup partitions WILL require removal of the repository.
- If you need to retain it, Archive your backup data – this is a data destructive process.
1) In AppAssure,
a. Pause all services – snapshots, replication, virtual standby and archiving
b. Dismount all mounted recovery points.
2) In Windows, start Disk Management to check for the presence of two partitions:
RASRdisk 15 GB
WinBackup 75 GB
NOTE: Please note that on some RUU versions the correct name of the Windows Backup partition is WIinBackups (as opposed to WinBackup). If the partition is not named properly, the Windows Backup Policy cannot be created and no backups may be performed.
Per the screenshot below, of the WinBackup partition is present, please open a Dell ProSupport Support Ticket.
3) On the AA Appliance, if Virtual Standby storage space is active and in use, remove the machines from AppAssure’s Virtual Standby.
4) Start the Dell OMSA application (mostly likely this will require use of Internet Explorer)
5) Select the partition for Virtual Standby and delete it.
NOTE again – if the entire DL4x00 internal storage capacity has been allocated for AA backups, then that AA repository must be deleted from AppAssure.
6) Using the Create Virtual Disk Wizard, create two RAID-6 partitions with the following sizes and label names:
RASRdisk 15 GB
WinBackup 75 GB
7) In Windows, start Disk Management, then using the MBR option, initialize both new volumes.
8) Format and label both volumes:
RASRdisk 15 GB
WinBackup 75 GB
9) In AppAssure in the Appliance tab,
a. To provision storage for your AA Repository and/or Virtual Standby, go to Tasks > Provisioning, and provision storage for the
i. AA Repository
ii. Virtual Standby
iii. After successfully provisioning, you should see results similar to this next screenshot:
NOTE: clicking on the > symbol opens that item showing you details – in this case, the internal disks that are being used.
b. Go to Appliance > Health
i. Select the link for Backup (to the right of Rapid Appliance Self-Recovery)
ii. Configure your Windows Backup Policy (red box)
On the Appliance, for the Windows Backup Policy, set the desired scheduled time.
iii. Your final results should look like this:
10) If you had to delete your repository, AND you were previously protecting AppAssure agents, point each of those agents to the newly created AppAssure repository.
11) Recreate the AppAssure Virtual Standbys – as needed.
