"What is a SQL injection? A SQL injection attack is an attack in which a code that attacks the database is inserted into a web site. It’s one of the most common types of web application security vulnerabilities. So it’s better to be prepared, or at least well informed SQL injections can have an immediate (first-order attacks) and delayed effect (second-order attacks) In the first-order attacks, the attacker accomplishes the desired effect immediately. A SQL injection attack inserts a code directly into the input variables that are concatenated using SQL commands and then executed. It means that your data or objects are instantly deleted, or credit card numbers and security codes instantly emailed to the attacker. Spooky, right? In the second-order attacks, the attacker injects a code into the strings which are stored in tables as metadata. These strings are later concatenated and executed. You might not be aware of the attack for days or even weeks We are not going to show how to protect your database from SQL injections. 1. Start ApexSQL Log
2. Connect to the database

3. If you have any transaction log backups and/or detached transaction logs made before the SQL injection occurred, you can add them in this step
   • To add detached transaction logs click ""Add file""
   • Select the needed transaction log backups or detached transaction logs and click ""Next""

4. Use the ""Filter"" tab, ""Time range"" filter to narrow down the recovery to the time when the SQL injection occurred

5. On the ""filter"" setup tab, select ""Data operations (DML)"" to audit only the data changes – inserts, updates and deletes. Uncheck ""Schema operations (DDL)"" and the object changes will not be audited

6. If possible, use the Users, Operations and Field values filters to narrow down the results
7. To increase the performance and quality of the audit trail data, add database backups
8. Click ""Finish""
9. To create the Undo script:
   1. Click ""Undo"" on the Home tab, in the Actions group to create the Undo script for all transactions shown in the grid

   2. Check the transactions you want to create the Undo script for, right click in the Main grid and click Undo in the context menu to create the Undo script only for the selected transactions
10. Execute the script against the database

After the Undo script is executed, the data changes are rolled back and the original data is back in the database How to recover dropped and truncated data? 1. Start ApexSQL Recover
2. As you don't know which statement caused the data loss, use all ""Data recovery"" options, one after another

3. If you have transaction log backups or detached transaction logs created before the SQL injection, click ""Add transaction logs"" to add them. In case there were many transactions on the database after the data was lost, the information about the lost data might not exist in the online transaction log anymore. By adding these additional sources, you will provide the necessary information about the transactions that removed the data from your database This option is available only for the DELETE and DROP TABLE options. If additional sources are not available, select ""additional transaction logs are available"" and go to step #4
   1. Add a sequence of transaction log backups that end with the online transaction log using ""Add""
   2. Add detached transaction logs using ""Add""

   3. Select the time when the data was lost. This will narrow down the results only to the records you want to recover. You don’t want to insert the data you have deleted before the SQL injection If you’re not sure when this was, select ""Date and time are unknown""

4. Select the table(s) from which the data was lost. Check out your database structure to find out if the tables you want to recover have any relationships. Make sure that all tables that depend on the tables being recovered are also selected, to avoid problems with re-inserting dependent data

5. Select ""Save recovery script to file"" to create a redo T-SQL script that will insert all the recovered records. You can review and modify the script before you execute it
