When collecting DFSRS information, Active Administrator could, in certain situations, cause DFS locking due to the frequency of the DFSRS collector. This behavior was primarily observed in environments where Recovery Manager for Active Directory was also installed.
To reduce the risk of DFS locking, the default frequency of the DFSRS collector has been lowered to once per hour in version 8.9. As part of this change, the default collector interval and report interval values for DFSRS collectors in the DomainControllerConfiguration.xml file have been updated to 3600 seconds (1 hour).
This change applies to the following DFSRS collectors:
DFSRS RDC is not enabled
DFSRS staging area disk space
DFSRS conflict area disk space
DFSRS conflict files generated
DFSRS sharing violation
DFSRS unresponsive
Only the file containing the default values has been modified. Existing custom configurations are not affected.
These values are applied only to new Active Directory Health–monitored domain controllers at the time monitoring is enabled. During this process, the default domain controller settings file is copied and customized for the specific domain controller.
Settings for previously managed domain controllers in their Domain-Controller-specific files are not modified automatically and must be updated manually. Alternatively, administrators can create or update a domain controller template containing the revised settings and apply it to domain controllers that are already managed.
NOTE: If existing templates contain the original settings or are created from a domain controller that still uses the original values, those settings will be applied when the template is used. Ensure all templates are reviewed and updated to reflect the new DFSRS interval values to avoid configuring the DFSRS scan interval lower than intended.
