When using the vWorkspace Console to automatically update the web access config you encounter the error ‘”The web server was reached successfully but the database could not be contacted. The web access config was not updated”
This error may be encountered when using a mirrored SQL database for vWorkspace
The error is caused by a problem in the .NET Framework provider for SQL Client. The issue is a Microsoft bug for which a hotfix has been made available from this link http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2605597
The steps to resolve the problem are:
NOTE: If the database's are not in sync yet after reboot, you will get a different error. That means you have to give it a few more minutes before it will work.
The same issue has been identifixed in vWorkspace 8.6.x versions and caused by dot '.' in database DSN entry name. To resolve it, please perform the following steps on all Connection Broker machines:
- close vWorkspace Management console
- open Data Sources (ODBC) through the Control Panel. On 64-bit machines, please run \windows\syswow64\odbcad32.exe
- go to System DSN tab and locate the vWorkspace DSN entry
- select it and click on Configure button
- change DSN name, so it won't contain dots '.'. Using underscore '_' is OK
- finish the wizard, providing PNadmin password and clicking on Test Data Source to verify connectivity to the SQL server and database
- reopen vWorkspace Management console. It should popup a dialog window, asking for DSN entry. Select the changed DSN entry from the drop-down list and click OK
