A backup it fails with the following error " The database trasaction was rolled back" The job does run and appears to fail at the end.
The VM being configured with a device that vRanger does not know how to deal with such as a HD Audio device can cause this issue to occur. There can be other similar devices that can cause this to occur as well.
Please follow these steps to correct the issue.
1. Open the vSphere client
2. Connect to your VC/Host
3. Find the VM that you are having trouble backing up and right click on it and left click on Edit Settings...
4. Take a look at all the components the VM is configured and if you see any components that the VM does need to be configured with like HD Audio, USB (specifically) and remove these components
5. Click OK to save the settings
6. Run the backup job for the VM once again
7. You will also want to clean up the repository storage via windows explorer because upon job failure a VM directory is created on the repository storage and the folder contains the savepoint.manifest and VMconfig files. Because vRanger does not know about these files the folder and files will not be cleaned up by vRanger and will need to be cleaned up manually. The files should not cause an issue with the free space on the storage because they are small but can cause confusion in the future as to why they are there.
