Instant provisioning fails because provisioned clones cannot get IP address. Master image can get IP address OK. There are free leases on DHCP server. Booting up cloned machine shows in Device Manager that Network Adapter has an Unknown driver.
Issue is caused by so-called factory mode. This mode pauses PnP mechanism from detecting drivers for hardware. Usually factory mode is initiated by the sysprep process. Event Viewer, System shows warning message: "Plug and Play user-interface dialogs have been suppressed in Factory Mode"
To fix the issue, remove the Factory Mode from the master image. It's possible through registry modifications:
- delete the key HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Factory
- navigate to HKLM\SYSTEM\Setup and modify value of FactoryPreInstallInProgress to 0
Reboot the master image to verify that PnP warning is no longer shown. Shutdown and deploy machines from it.
