How do you run a silent install for Knowledge Xpert for Oracle Administration?
RESOLUTION 1:
For Knowledge Xpert v9.x, in order to silently install you need to run the following in command line:
<path to KXpert install executable> /s
Example: This will install Knowledge Xpert for Oracle Administration with all the default settings:
C:\KXORADM_V9.0_102.exe /s
RESOLUTION 2:
For Knowledge Xpert v10.x, in order to silently install you need to do the following in command line:
1. Use the packer.exe to unpack the install executable.
If you downloaded the KXpert 10.x standalone installer, you will get 3 folders,
Knowledge_Xpert_(Engine)
Knowledge_Xpert_(Oracle_common)
the folder for the specific edition you downloaded (i.e. Knowledge_Xpert_(PLSQL) if you downloaded the PLSQL standalone installer)
If you want to install other editions also, you should download the other editions, unpack them similarly, but you'll only need to run one set of (Engine) and (Oracle_common) msi's, and then the individual editions' msi, and all should be installed ito the same target directory.
If you downloaded a Toad application that comes with KXpert, use the packer.exe on the Toad installer executable and the KXpert file will be unpacked also. In that case, it may include more folders for the specific KXpert editions (i.e. with Toad for Oracle 9.6.1, it will come with both Knowledge_Xpert_(Oracle_administration) and Knowledge_Xpert_(PLSQL) for both the KXpert Ora admin and PLSQL editions).
The packer command to unpack the install exe is:
packer extract "<path to the setup executable>" "<extraction path>"
Example: c:\> packer extract "C:\KXPLSQL.exe" "C:\extract"
All msi's in each folder need to be installed into the same target directory. Please install the (Engine) and (Oracle_common) msi's in that order, before installing the individual edition msi's. Here are the command lines to run them silently.
2. Knowledge_Xpert_(Engine) Command Line:
msiexec.exe /i "<path to msi file>\KXEngineSetup.msi" /q /l*v "<path to install log>\KXEngineSetup.msi.log" /qn TARGETDIR="<install dir>\Knowledge Xpert" ARPSYSTEMCOMPONENT=1 DISABLEADVTSHORTCUTS=1
3. Knowledge_Xpert_(Oracle_Common) Command Line:
msiexec.exe /i "<path to msi file>\KXOraCommon.msi" /q /l*v "<path to install log>\KXOraCommon.msi.log" /qn TARGETDIR="<install dir>\Knowledge Xpert" ARPSYSTEMCOMPONENT=1
4. Knowledge_Xpert_(Oracle_Administration) Command Line:
msiexec.exe /i "<path to msi file>\KXOraAdmSetup.msi" /q /l*v "<path to install log>\KXOraAdmSetup.msi.log" /qn TARGETDIR="<install dir>\Knowledge Xpert" ARPSYSTEMCOMPONENT=1
5. Knowledge_Xpert_(PLSQL) Command Line:
msiexec.exe /i "<path to msi file>\KXPLSQLSetup.msi" /q /l*v "<path to install log>\KXPLSQLSetup.msi.log" /qn TARGETDIR="<install dir>\Knowledge Xpert" ARPSYSTEMCOMPONENT=1
RESOLUTION 2 applies to all editions of Knowledge Xpert v10.x including KXpert for DB2 and Kxpert for SQL Server. All use the same basic engine and files and should be installed into the same directory, but have separate information files, specific to the edition/platform.
The edition specific msi should all run similar command lines:
msiexec.exe /i "<path to msi file>\KX<edition>Setup.msi" /q /l*v "<path to install log>\KX<edition>Setup.msi.log" /qn TARGETDIR="<install dir>\Knowledge Xpert" ARPSYSTEMCOMPONENT=1
