Solution SOL58623
Title
Problem Description
When trying to install a QMX extension on a Windows 2008 R2 machine a message window appears during the Extension installation saying that the Quest Base Framework is not installed, but you have already installed the Quest_QMX_64bit_W2008_Vista_4_0_0_509.exe successfully.
Cause
Windows Server 2008 R2 and the Quest_QMX_64bit_W2008_Vista_4_0_0_509.exe has a known registry insertion problem. It duplicates the wow6432node key.
The 509 installer will create a second Wow6432Node if one is already present.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE | SOFTWARE|Wow6432Node|Wow6432Node\eXc Software\
nonWindows. See attachment (registry.JPG) for screenshot.
Notice there are two Wow6432Node Keys, which is the problem.
Resolution
Open the Registry Editor
Delete the 2nd Wow6432Node Key. USE CAUTION! Make certain you are deleting the second Wow6432Node Key that was created by our installer. This key is highlighted in the attachment: registry.JPG
The correct registry will look like attachment: registry2.JPG
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE | SOFTWARE | Wow6432Node\eXc Software\nonWindows_WMI_PROVIDER
Note: There is a space between “eXc” and “Software”.
In the nonWindows_WMI_PROVIDER key the String Value for InstallationDirectory should reflect
C:\Program Files\eXc Software\WMIProviders\nonWindows_WMI_PROVIDER (default) or the installation directory you have chosen.
