Users in ADUC have been mailbox-enabled but there mailboxes have not been initialized.

In ADUC properties of a user | Exchange General tab | Delivery Options | Forwarding address is populated, i.e. email is forwarded to another address and doesn't touch the mailbox.

If Microsoft Active Directory Topology Diagrammer is used it tells that there is a certain number of mailboxes. However, MessageStats does not agree with this as it still says we only have the same number of mailboxes as before adding these mailboxes.

The root of the issue is that MessageStats is requested to provide counts of mailboxes whose property for the homeMDB is set but that has a forwarding rule turned on. As s result, the mailbox is more a contact than a mailbox.

WORKAROUND

Use either a script to extract this information from AD or a Quest Software tool such as Reporter.


STATUS

This functionality is not currently offered in MessageStats. Enhancement Request TF00106362 has been raised for this to be considered for inclusion in a future release of MessageStats
